THE TRIUMPH AWARDS
The Realities For Children Triumph Awards were designed to honor and provide recognition for exceptional youth in our community who have overcome the adversities of childhood abuse and neglect in their lives. In its inaugural year, the intent of the Triumph Awards was to recognize the accomplishments of youth in our community who have excelled in the face of their childhood abuse, as well as the valuable youth agencies that serve them. In 2004 Realities For Children was able to provide the first full College Scholarship to a Triumph Award Winner.
The Triumph Awards have grown exponentially since their inception, and in 2006 cornerstone donors have issued a challenge to the community to raise $100,000, which will be matched dollar for dollar. This will enable the Triumph Awards to build a $500,000 Scholarship Endowment. The returns on this endowed principal are distributed to Triumph Award winners in the form of collegiate scholarships. On the $500,000 endowment, the Triumph Awards intende to provide $50,000 in collegiate grants every two years. Therefore, your support and donations to this fund will truly create a timeless legacy of compassion, service and triumph.
All of the youth eligible for the Triumph Awards are nominated by local agencies that work with abused, neglected and/or at-risk youth in Larimer County. Only youth who have survived and excelled in the face of their adverse life circumstances are eligible to be nominated. Other nomination criteria include:
age 16-19
strong academic performance
activity in the community
interest in further education.
A panel comprised of local community leaders, major scholarship sponsors, staff and advisors review all the nominations and select three finalists. Five runner-up nominees received a smaller educational scholarship and the winner was awarded the full scholarship. All youth nominated receive recognition for their accomplishments and six youth each year receive the Realities For Children Triumph Award.
